How to save the world

Imagine finding an ad in the newspaper that reads something like this,
'' Teacher looking for a student that wants to change the world.''
This is Daniel Quinn's 'Ishmael' which begins rather unassumingly.
As I started to venture into the story, which had crossed my path once or twice before, I recognized that it was becoming a pretty big deal for me.
In my past there have been a few books that have hurled me light years into awareness or moved me deeply. Among them,
Persig's 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' or,
Sulitzer's 'the Green King', and now this one.

Daniel Quinn, to my mind, so gently builds the premise of Ishmael for the reader that it is altogether unquestionable that it would be Ishmael that spells out the essay of humankind's relationships with the earth and its creatures, what works , what doesn't and why.
This is a remarkable book with profound insights and gentle treatment of a mindset that could stand a little adjusting.
All that to say, the book moved me and it is an excellent read.
